Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
Committed to our Diverse Community
Our Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) programs are designed to integrate theory and practice to build your knowledge of language functions and structures, teaching methods, language acquisition as well as the relationship between culture and language.
You will work collaboratively with faculty and classmates tackling hands-on projects and other field-based learning opportunities. Some of these projects include our Summer Institute and Gonzaga ESL community outreach program (GECO) where our TESOL students teach and lead classes for the larger Spokane Community.
Our Options:
- Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages: Prepares you for a career as an ESL teacher or language specialist who want to explore how language is learned and taught.
- TESOL Certificate: Designed to help students acquire the basic skills to teach language in a variety of situations. This program leads to an ELL endorsement and is the minimal qualification accepted by most language programs around the world.
