Loft Kits, Bunked & Raised Beds

Reservations for 2026–2027 are now open. Use the Bed Modification Request Form on the myGU version of this page (linked at the bottom). Please read all information before submitting a request. Requests submitted after July 25th are not guaranteed to be installed before move-in.

Facilities Support offers several bed modification options to help you make the most of your room. Loft kits and raised beds create storage space underneath your bed; bunked beds free up floor space in the room.

Standard Beds

  • Mattress size: Twin XL (78” / 6’ 6” long).
  • Twin XL sheets required.
  • This is the default height installed on all beds if no modification is requested.

Standard Bed Height

The height from the floor to the bottom of the mattress deck is 1' 7". Two stackable drawers, small bins, luggage, etc. fit under a standard height bed.

Loft Kits

Reserving a Loft Kit

  • Loft kits are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Availability is limited.
  • Not eligible for lofts: Rental houses, Sharp Apartments, Sinto Apartments, Burch Apartments, upper-division Corkery suites, top two floors of Kennedy, and other upper-division apartments. Beds in these buildings also cannot be raised.
  • Please note, there are a handful of small rooms on campus that require both beds to be high lofted or bunked. Your request may be rejected if the room you are assigned does not allow for your requested configuration of furniture.
  • To reserve, complete the Bed Modification Request Form (link at bottom of page) using your Gonzaga Zagmail (SSO). Include your name, Zagmail, phone number, building/room number (if known), modification type, and preferred bed side (left or right when facing into the room from the doorway). You may submit without building/room info to hold your place on the list.
  • Forms submitted before July 25 are guaranteed installation before check-in weekend. Later submissions may still receive a kit, but installation before move-in is not guaranteed. You will be notified by email once installed.
  • Ladders are not provided, except in Mantua Hall. The bed frame ends serve as a ladder.

After Your Loft Kit Is Reserved

  • Custodial will install the kit—you do not need to be present. Please clear the area under your bed beforehand. Custodial will not leave an unassembled kit for you to set up.A return/instruction form will be attached to your lofted bed. Keep this form to confirm the kit is returned and to avoid a $450 replacement fee.
  • Do not give loft kit parts to other students or place them in the hallway. The kit is checked out in your name and you are responsible for returning it to Custodial.

Returning Your Loft Kit

  • You may choose to return your loft kit at any time throughout the year by submitting another Bed Modification Form and selecting “Remove Loft Kit” with your dorm location.
  • Do not disassemble the kit yourself or leave any parts in the hallway. Custodial will credit you once the kit is picked up.

Loft Kit Heights

Two height options are shown below: lower loft and high loft.

Lower Loft Kit

The height from the floor to the bottom of the mattress deck is 3' 2". You can fit three stackable drawers, a mini fridge, etc. underneath.

High Loft Kit

The height from the floor to the bottom of the mattress deck is 4' 11". A desk, small sofa, mini fridge, etc. will fit underneath.

Bunked Beds

  • Students are allowed to bunk beds at standard height. To adjust individual mattress deck heights after bunking, email loftkit@gonzaga.edu with your reservation/work order number. Do not attempt to adjust the deck height.
  • Bunking pins are available at the Plant & Construction Services Customer Service Desk (1004 N Ruby St). Custodial is also happy to assist.
  • Most beds are able to be bunked, except those on the top two floors of Kennedy and in upper-division apartments (unless the apartment has multiple tenants per bedroom, by Housing request).
  • Request bunked beds by selecting “Bunk Beds” in the modification form. Custodial is happy to do this for you.

The height between the two beds is 30.5". The space underneath the lower bed is the same as the standard bed height (1' 7").

Raised Bed

  • Most beds are raisable, with the same exceptions as bunked beds (top two floors of Kennedy, upper-division apartments).
  • Do not attempt to raise a bed yourself. Bed ends can pinch and break, resulting in damage charges. Request via the form instead.
  • Select “Adjust to Raised Bed” in the Bed Modification Request Form.
