Assistant Professor of Military Science
MAJ Benjamin Reed enlisted into the Army in January of 2003 as a Combat Medic in the rank of PV2. His first assignment was to 2-34 Armor battalion, 1st Infantry BDE, 1st Infantry DIV, at Fort Riley, KS. He served as a medic for multiple tank platoons and for the Battalion mortar platoon during the unit’s 2005 deployment to Baqubah, Iraq. After his ETS from the Army in January of 2007, MAJ Reed attended Oakland University in Rochester, MI where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science in 2010.
He went on to attend the Army’s Officer Candidate School where he was commissioned as a 2LT in the Adjutant General Corp with a branch detail as an Infantry officer in 2011. His first assignment as an Infantry LT was to 1st SBCT, 2nd Infantry Division out of JBLM. There he served as a Rifle Platoon Leader in C Co, 5-20 IN, after that he was hand selected by BDE leadership to serve as the Company Executive Officer for HHC BDE, 1-2 SBCT. In November of 2015, MAJ Reed was assigned as the Battalion S1 for 2-3 IN, 1-2 SBCT. During this time, he completed a Pacific Pathways mission through 5 countries, managing almost 900 personnel across a quarter of the Earth.
Post S1 time, MAJ Reed attended AGCCC at Fort Jackson, SC, graduating with top honors and was then assigned to the 10th SBDE, Fort Drum, NY. There he took over as the BDE HROB OIC. Shortly after taking this position, by merit, he was selected to become the BDE S1 OIC. Following this, MAJ Reed’s efforts as the BDE S1 caused him to be hand selected again by the BDE Commander to be the 510th HR Co Commander (The Division’s HR Company). MAJ Reed took command in Afghanistan and was the Postal Commander for the entire theater for 5 months. After 18 months of Co Command, MAJ Reed took over as the 10th MTN HHBN (DIV HQs Battalion) S1 OIC. He prepared the DIV HQs for a deployment to Afghanistan and served as the single point for personnel accountability during the COVID-19 outbreak.
After leaving 10th Mtn, MAJ Reed was assigned to the Spokane MEPS as the Executive Officer and performed these duties successfully for 4 years, assisting the Spokane MEPS in earning the title of MEPS of the Year in 2022. In May 2025, MAJ Reed joined the Bulldog Battalion as an APMS at Gonzaga University.
His awards and decorations include: Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 3 OLC, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon (2), Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Expert Infantry Badge, Parachutist Badge, and Ranger Tab.
MAJ Reed has been married to his wife Hannah for 21 years and he is currently completing his MBA in Human Resources Management through Webster University.
