The Program
This interdisciplinary program aims to foster understanding of and appreciation for the interconnections and interdependencies that shape the contemporary world. The curriculum is designed to support Gonzaga University's mission to promote "a mature commitment to dignity of the human person, social justice, diversity, intercultural competence, global engagement, solidarity with the poor and vulnerable, and care for the planet."
From Fall 2021, International Studies students will follow a completely revised curriculum. The Major includes four units:
- Foundational courses in Political Science, History, Sociology, Economics, and International Studies.
- A thematic concentration in either International Political Economy, War and Peace, or Global and Intercultural Connections.
- A regional concentration in either Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, or the Middle East.
- Proficiency in a language spoken in the region of study.
Study Abroad
International Studies Majors are encouraged to study abroad during their time at Gonzaga. This may take a variety of forms from faculty-led summer programs to directly enrolling in an international institution. In many cases, students may live with a local family or with local students and/or integrate internship and volunteering opportunities into their study abroad experience.
