The Gonzaga Music Department is a center of vibrant performance and creative study for music majors, minors, and non-majors from all disciplines. Gonzaga’s students and faculty integrate musical excellence and innovation through a liberal arts education that includes performances, festivals, tours, interdisciplinary collaborations, and research. Majors and non- majors alike combine their passion for music with pursuing lives of leadership and service for the common good. Musical artists enable our community, nation, and world to inspire others, to creatively seek new solutions, and to build bridges among diverse people. Therefore, we welcome all students, regardless of major, to participate in music ensembles and private lessons.
With over 500 students participating in music ensembles, lessons, and courses each semester, we present over 75 performances each year. Our students and 37 faculty passionately pursue our Mission:
- Prepare music majors for successful careers in the professional fields of education, performance, composition, church music through excellence in academic, research, and performance experiences.
- Cultivate artistic expression and aesthetic appreciation among minors, non-majors, and the Gonzaga community through performances, academic courses, and individual study.
- Enrich the Spokane community and the broader Inland Northwest through performances that exemplify musical excellence and innovation.
- Serve as a resource for musical excellence and development for educators, students, and music professionals of the Inland Northwest through institutes, festivals, and clinics.
