The Gonzaga University Model United Nations (GUMUN) is both an academic program and a student-led organization that is part of a network of national and international collegiate Model United Nations (Model UN) programs.  The Model UN allows students to come together for conferences and simulate the various negotiation and decision-making processes of the United Nations (UN), which is the most all-inclusive and arguably the most important global intergovernmental organization that exists.  The GUMUN was created by the students in 2008 and has gradually been converted into an academic program under the Political Science department since 2009.

Students who are selected for Model UN now have the option to enroll in it for course credit or to simply participate as part of the delegation. Over the years, GUMUN students have won many awards at regional and national Model UN conferences, but GUMUN is not really about winning awards. Rather, our goals in GUMUN are: to learn the perspectives of other countries, to gain a deeper understanding of global issues, to practice working collaboratively toward solutions to those issues, and to create a sense of community among GUMUN delegates.
