Economics Symposium
The Economics Symposium is one of the School of Business Administration’s largest and most anticipated events and is traditionally held every two years. The next symposium, the 29th in the series, is scheduled for Fall 2026. Throughout its history, the symposium has featured distinguished speakers, each addressing timely and influential economic topics. Each event typically highlights the work of a nationally renowned economist.
2017: Christina Romer, Class of 1957 Garff B. Wilson Professor of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley, presented “In the Wake of Disaster: The Great Recession in Historical Perspective.”
2019: Bud Barnes, Professor of Economics and Dean Emeritus at Gonzaga University and founder of the Economics Symposium, presented “America Divided: An Economic Perspective.”
2021: David Card, 1950 Professor of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley, presented “Economics and Public Policy: Lessons from the Debates on Immigration.”
2024: David H. Autor, Ford Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, presented “The Consequences of Technological Changes and Globalization.”
