About the Summer GRO-MECS Program

Students: Unlock Your Potential

The GRO-MECS program offers an unparalleled opportunity for Gonzaga undergraduates to immerse themselves in STEM-related projects -- and get paid for it!

The GRO-MECS Award Includes:

  • Weekly stipend for 8 to 10 weeks.
  • Additional funds for supplies.
  • Group pizza lunch each week.

In addition to working alongside another student and their faculty mentor, the GRO-MECS 2026 students will do the following:

  • Work in Spokane on a project lasting 8-10 weeks.
  • Between Sunday, July 5 to Friday, July 10, guide small groups of high school students through hands-on research projects in the SEAS Summer Immersion Program (SSIP).
  • Give a short presentation on the research work at the July 10 SSIP Research Symposium.
  • Enjoy a weekly pizza lunch seminar discussing progress and listening to guest speakers.
  • Attend workshops on responsible conduct in research, professional communication and poster preparation, and any necessary safety training.
  • Prepare a research summary and present a poster or talk during the 2026-27 academic year. Travel funds will be available to present at a conference.
