PMIG Annual Meeting 2025

PMIG 2025 conference in Spokane, WA, August 1-2!

Meeting Location and Details

Conference Dates: The conference will informally begin on Thursday July 31st with an evening gathering with food and beverages. The main meeting will extend to two full days running 8:30 am-5 pm on Friday and Saturday August 1 & 2. Sunday will be a travel day.

Hotel: The Ruby River Hotel (700 N. Division St, Spokane, WA 99202) has rooms blocked off at a reduced rate. Please use the following direct link to book or call the hotel directly at 1-509-326-5577 and request the “PMIG Conference-Gonzaga group rate”. The hotel is within walking distance of all conference activities and is adjacent to downtown Spokane.

Airport: Spokane is serviced by one airport: Spokane International (GEG). Flights into or out of Spokane may be limited due to it being a regional airport, plan travel accordingly. Taxis, Uber, Spokane Transit (STA) are available for transportation to and from the hotel. The hotel does not have a shuttle service.

Call for Abstracts and Meeting Sessions: All participants are invited to deliver a five-minute talk about one of their teaching innovations and/or pedagogical research. The talks will help to form the basis of ensuring group discussions. Details on abstract information and meeting sessions are below. All participants may attend the conference for free, however, if you are willing, please consider donating to help support the meetings efforts. The annual meetings are 100% self-supported through donations from various educational institutions and departments, organizations, and individuals.

Meeting Schedule (TBA)

Final meeting agenda will be released in July. 

The meeting sessions may focus on the following topics:

  • Teaching Physiology Today: Share your successes related to any aspect of teaching including working in teams, laboratory or class activities, new approaches or strategies, integration of learning outcomes, scaffolded learning throughout a curriculum, etc.
  • Student Success and Well-Being: Share programs or strategies aimed at fostering student success and well-being (e.g. student support services or strategies, mental health resources, wellness practices, and ways to create community).
  • Current Challenges in Higher Education: student enrollment or retainment, local/state/federal funding, Department of Education changes or accreditation, etc
  • Generative AI in the Classroom: Share how you have used this technology to develop resources, in assignments, and/or addressed challenges with its use.
  • Preparing Students for Their Careers: Topics could include experiential and community-based learning, internships, and other ways of developing professional skills.
  • Other category: Pitch a topic or discussion that does not fit into the categories above for the organizing committee to consider including!

Located in the heart of the Inland Northwest, Spokane serves as a major medical hub for a large geographical region, is very family friendly, and offers access to incredible outdoor recreational activities. Gonzaga University was founded in 1887 and is a private, liberal arts institution serving approximately 5000 undergraduate and 2000 graduate students. Our 152-acre campus is located next to downtown Spokane and right along the Spokane river, offering easy access to dining, entertainment, and recreational opportunities for visitors. The Human Physiology program was created in 2012 is home to approximately 200 undergraduate students, a dozen faculty & staff, and recently moved into a state-of-the-art building with new labs, equipment, and classrooms. Arriving by plane? 

Many downtown hotels offer airport shuttles. You can also choose to use the Spokane Transit Authority for a bus or a taxi service to and from the airport. 

Getting around Spokane

The zero-emission City Line bus runs every 15 minutes (30 minutes on Sundays) and is a great way to get around, connecting from Browne's Addition, through downtown and the University District. If staying near Gonzaga's campus, you can use the Centennial Trail to walk to Riverfront Park and the main downtown attractions.
