Program Overview
The one-week, one-credit Gonzaga Law in Action: Immigration Advocacy in Nogales program is a unique opportunity for students to work with asylum seekers and other migrants in Nogales, Sonora. In addition to the hands-on work in Nogales, students will spend time in pre-departure classes learning about U.S. asylum law and policy, the root causes of forced migration, as well as trauma-informed and cross-cultural lawyering. Participants do not need prior experience in immigration law, but do need emotional resilience, empathy, flexibility, and fluency in Spanish. First-year law students are encouraged to apply. Cost and Dates
Travel Dates: March 6-12, 2022
Pre-departure course dates will be announced with the Spring Semester schedule.
Gonzaga Law's Border Justice Initiative will hand housing and travel costs for the students selected to participate. Participants may be expected to pay for some of their meals and incidentals while traveling and must be willing to share a hotel room.

Program Requirements
The Immigration Advocacy in Nogales program is open to all law students who meet the following requirements:
- Proficient in Spanish
- In good academic standing at the end of the Fall 2021 semester
- Have a valid U.S. passport or other authorization to travel between Mexico and the U.S.
- Able to walk one mile without difficulty
- Vaccinated for Covid-19
