Complete your B.A. at EWU while earning your J.D.
Gonzaga University School of Law and Eastern Washington University’s (EWU) joint program provides students who have not yet completed a bachelor's degree the ability to apply to and graduate from law school a year sooner.
Criteria for Application
EWU students seeking admission to Gonzaga Law through the 3+3 program must meet the following criteria:
- Successful completion of at least 92 undergraduate semester hours (138 quarter credits), including the completion of all EWU general education requirements, as a matriculated student
at EWU. Running Start hours are not included in this total. - While no specific areas of study or disciplines are required for the 3 + 3 Program, students must choose a major and obtain at least 27 quarter hours with a grade of C or better contributing toward that major, with at least 18 of those quarter hours at the 300-400 level.
- Successful completion of required program courses.
- Provide written approval from the appropriate EWU official indicating that the applicant will meet all EWU graduation requirements for early entry to Gonzaga Law prior to enrolling in law school.
- Be accepted to Gonzaga Law through its established admissions process.
If admitted to Gonzaga Law, and upon completion of 1L year, EWU will accept up to twenty-eight (28) semester credits as transfer credits from Gonzaga University Law to complete the degree requirements for select bachelor's degree programs. Students must also meet any minimum graduation requirements outlined by EWU.
Law School admission steps and consideration
Students must apply for admission to Gonzaga University Law’s full-time, traditional J.D. program during their third year of undergraduate study. Gonzaga Law must receive all required application materials no later than March 15 of the calendar year in which you hope to matriculate at Gonzaga University Law. For priority consideration for admission at scholarships, applicants must:
- Meet or exceed the previous year's 1L class median GPA and LSAT.
- Include written approval and recommendation from appropriate EWU official detailing eligibility for 3+3 program.
- Successfully complete 138 quarter-credits from EWU by the end of your third year (sixth semester) as a matriculated student.
Suggested Application Process
June - July prior to start of junior year:
- Assess the academic performance to date to ensure that the undergraduate credit progress and GPA requirement are on track.
- Prepare for the LSAT.
October - December of junior year:
- Consult with faculty advisor to plan course selection for spring semester of junior year to ensure that all requirements for the baccalaureate degree, other than courses to be taken in the first year of law school, will be fulfilled.
- Take early Fall administration of the LSAT.
- Receive LSAT score to determine academic eligibility for 3+3 program.
November - March of junior year:
- Retake LSAT in January (if needed).
- Submit transcripts, including fall semester junior year grades, to CAS.
- Submit application materials to Gonzaga University Law, including:
- Application form
- CAS report (includes undergraduate transcript and LSAT scores)
- Two letters of recommendation
- Resume
- Personal statement
- Letter of eligibility for 3+3 Program from appropriate official
