Gonzaga University’s Center for Community Engagement’s Arrupe Engagement Pathways is a model for community engagement that builds on our strength in direct service by adding seven additional pathways for engagement to align with students’ academic and personal interests and identified community needs.
- Direct Service: Giving personal time and energy to address immediate community needs or priorities.
- Faith & Justice: Committing to community-based projects and initiatives that explore the intersection of faith and justice.
- Community-Engaged Learning and Research: Enriching knowledge of and informing action on critical social issues by connecting coursework and research to community-identified concerns.
- Philanthropy: Giving financial and other resources to actively promote human welfare.
- Policy & Politics: Participating in processes of democratic self-governance and civic engagement.
- Social Innovation: Finding novel solutions to address social challenges by applying concepts and principles found in fields like business and engineering.
- Advocacy & Awareness: Engaging, educating and mobilizing individual or collective action efforts that influence changes to systems and/or policies.
Through dynamic community engagement, CCE supports Gonzaga University’s mission to educate its students for “lives of leadership and service for the common good.” With 18 distinct service programs and 200 non-profit agency partnerships, CCE offers opportunities to engage social justice causes that matter to you, develop valuable leadership skills, and carry out Gonzaga’s Jesuit mission of serving for and with others.
The Arrupe Pathways model provides an enhanced method for student advising, program development, faculty partnerships and post-graduate service preparation.
