Five Week CX/Policy Program

The GDI Five-Week Program has become a cornerstone of our summer institute and a destination for rising sophomores and experienced veterans. This program has attracted some of the most talented, dedicated, and ambitious debaters since its inception over 15 years ago. Participants can look forward to a dedicated faculty with extensive teaching experience committed to guiding you every step of the way; a supportive lab of peers who share your goals and foster a positive, productive atmosphere; and countless debates and speaking opportunities—because we believe you learn best by doing. Alongside rigorous training, enjoy engaging lab activities designed to ensure you have an unforgettable experience. From day one, you will begin researching the topic and developing arguments, engage in practice debates, and receive personalized feedback from our expert faculty. Throughout the program, you will develop a wide range of essential skills, including crafting compelling, well-supported arguments, tailoring your arguments to a wide range of judging styles for maximum effectiveness, and executing winning strategies. In addition to intensive lab work, you will attend lecture and discussion groups designed to deepen your understanding of debate theory and practice while helping you achieve your personal goals. Three Week CX/Policy Program

Our Three-Week Policy Debate Lab offers the ideal balance between the brevity of a two-week camp and the depth of a five-week intensive. Designed for debaters seeking a rigorous yet manageable summer experience, this program emphasizes both skill development and strategic understanding to prepare students for competitive success. Throughout the program, students engage in targeted drills and exercises aimed at strengthening fundamental debate skills. Daily practice debates, speech re-dos, and speaking drills form the backbone of our curriculum, giving students frequent, hands-on opportunities to refine their technique and receive individualized feedback. Students attend interactive lectures covering all major areas of policy debate—from argument construction and refutation to strategy and round vision. Our experienced instructors adapt content to meet students’ needs, ensuring that both novice and advanced debaters benefit from the curriculum. Students will also focus on developing research skills and producing high-quality evidence through advanced techniques for card-cutting, file organization, and topic analysis, equipping them with the tools to be confident. Whether preparing for the upcoming season or looking to make a breakthrough in skills and strategy, our three-week lab offers the structure and support to make that happen.

Two Week Public Forum Program

Join the Public Forum Program at GDI this summer—this dynamic program is designed to ignite your passion for debate and prepare you to excel in your chosen format. In this immersive experience, you’ll learn to craft compelling arguments, develop critical thinking skills, and confidently articulate your perspective, dive into current events and global issues, refining your ability to analyze and debate both sides of the most relevant topics, work alongside award-winning coaches and accomplished debaters who will mentor you every step of the way. You will also put your skills to the test in practice debates and the GDI Tournament. Two Week Lincoln Douglas Program Programs

The Lincoln-Douglas Debate Lab at the GDI is the perfect destination for students of all experience levels—whether you are stepping into the world of debate for the first time or looking to refine your competitive edge. In this immersive program, you will reinforce the essentials and gain a solid foundation in Lincoln-Douglas debate, including case construction, argument development, and effective rebuttal techniques. For experienced debaters, take your skills to the next level with training in advanced frameworks, philosophy, and judge adaptation. You will engage in numerous practice debates, drills, and peer critiques to build confidence and hone your craft as you work closely with our experienced faculty who provide personalized guidance and feedback.
