GUSR pairs students with adults in the Spokane community who have developmental and intellectual disabilities to form relationships of friendship, respect, and mutual support. The program’s goals include breaking down stigmas faced by people with disabilities, celebrating all abilities, and advocating for inclusion. Students and their partners participate in weekly play practice programming that culminates in a performance at the end of each semester. Special events throughout the year include activities to educate and build community during Celebrate Abilities month, Harvest Ball, Monster Bash, and a two-day retreat called Way of the Heart.
