The Krista Colleagues Grant at Gonzaga University
About the Grant
Each spring, five students from Gonzaga University and five students from Whitworth University who are planning to serve with an existing postgraduate service agency will be selected to receive a $1500 service leadership grant.
Grantees will meet for a pre and post-service retreat where they can share and process service experiences and challenges.
Mission
Our mission is to provide support and encouragement to young adults engaged in a sustained period of voluntary or vocational service in urban America, developing nations, or environmental stewardship as an expression of their Christian faith and values.
History
The Krista Colleagues Global Service Grants program was established in 1999 in Spokane, Washington, to memorialize the life and vision of Krista Kimberly Hunt Ausland, who was killed at the age of 25 while helping in rural Bolivia with her husband, Aaron. Krista’s family and friends want an enduring legacy to honor her spirit of active love and faith, which was inspired by her desire “to demonstrate God’s love in acts.” Today, the program equips young leaders who commit to a year of service with the resources they need to serve effectively before, during, and after their year. Currently, nearly 300 program colleagues are shaping communities, institutions, and policies that affect the quality and equity of life in the Northwest and beyond.
