Gonzaga University Anti-Hazing Expectations
Traditions provide reminders and context of Gonzaga University’s past and hopes for the future. Such rituals are to always be deeply rooted in mutual respect and dignity, and not through activities that harm or humiliate. Gonzaga University is committed to providing for the safety, health, and welfare of the entire campus by educating our campus community on how to recognize hazing, the dangers of hazing, and holding community members accountable.
Hazing is inconsistent with Gonzaga’s mission as a Jesuit, humanistic University and is strictly prohibited. Review these expectations in the University’s Hazing Policy.
In compliance with the Stop Campus Hazing Act, this website links all relevant policies and procedures together in a single location and serves as the hazing policy for Gonzaga University.
Duty to Report
Anyone can, and is encouraged, to file a hazing concern report should they be aware of a concern. University employees or volunteers, including student employees, are required to report a hazing concern to the University at the first opportunity to do so if the employee has reasonable cause to believe that hazing either has occurred or will occur. An employee has ‘reasonable cause’ upon witnessing hazing or receiving a credible written or oral report alleging past, planned, or potential hazing. Individuals with hazing concerns may also independently report the concern to local law enforcement.
If, as a result of observations or information received in the course of employment or volunteer service, any employee, including a student employee, or volunteer the University has reasonable cause to believe that hazing has occurred, the employee or volunteer must report the incident, or cause a report to be made, to the Resolution Center for Student Conduct and Conflict. The employee or volunteer must make the report at the first opportunity to do so.
See the University’s Hazing Policy for more information.
